Meet the Coaches of PNAHC

George McConachy - Head Coach

George has been a coach since the 1970’s He is a level three (Old System) Sprints Relays Hurdles Distance and Walks coach. He has been an Athletics New Zealand coach lecturer since 1983 and an IAAF coach lecturer since 1990. George is qualified to coach all events and has coached athletes to the world championship level. He has coached athletes to 127 New Zealand titles and many more master’s titles.

Anne Thomson

Anne is an Athletics NZ level two coach in Jumps Sprints Relays and Hurdles and an IAAF level 3 in Jumps.

Tara Rolfe

Tara has level 2 qualification in Sprints, Hurdles and Relays. Tara has been HOD of PE at St Peters and in 1992 was the National Junior 200m Champion. Prominent athletes Tara has coached include Veronica Torr and the Signal twins.

Brian Curry

Brian coaches primarily High Jumpers and Pole-vaulters. He has a Level 2 qualification in High Jump, Sprints, Hurdles, Relays and Distance Running.

Katrina Gemmell

Katrina qualified as a Run Jump Throw and Level 1 coach while still a student at Freyberg High School. She is a former multiple national champion: Youth 800m Champion 1995/96/97, Youth 400m 1996, Junior 400m & 800m 1998. Katrina attended Tulane University, New Orleans, on a four year athletics scholarship and now works for Sport Manawatu. 

Vanessa Story

Vanessa has Run Jump Throw and level 2 qualifications and is currently developing her own programme.  Vanessa has won numerous national masters titles as well as finishing fourth in the 400m at the NZ and World Masters Track and Field Championships.

Viliami Teumohenga

Viliami was a former pole vaulter and has an IAAF Level I coaching course, which he completed in the Islands. As an athlete, he represented Tonga at the South Pacific Games and won a silver medal.

He is now a pole vault coach and would love to get in touch with those who are interested in learning the discipline. Feel free to send him a message or give him a ring on 0273310200
